“On August 14, 2010, we went to a friend’s house for BBQ and swimming on a nice summer day. Gabriel had been swimming with his brothers and a friend all day. Gabriel had been wearing a size appropriate life jacket. At some point, he removed his life jacket. Although people were all around him in the pool, heads were turned. I was inside helping prepare the food. When I came outside and realized his life jacket was floating at the top of the water, I called his name, and yelled for him while looking into the water. He was near the bottom of the 3 ½ deep pool. CPR was started right away. It took only a few minutes for paramedics to arrive. He was rushed to the hospital. It took paramedics 25 minutes from the time of their arrival on scene to resuscitate Gabriel. It is estimated that Gabriel was under water for no more than six minutes.”

Team Luke Hope For Minds provided the travel expenses for Gabriel and his mom to come to San Antonio for a research study on anoxic brain injuries from near drowning accidents.
